YMM Art Space Online Classes

YMM temporarily closed its doors on March 14th, 2020, following the social distancing recommendation to protect the health of our students, their families, our teachers and to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Since then, we have been offering lesson plans for our students to remain engaged in their art education. Our teachers designed lesson plans that required the use of limited supplies that can be easily found at home. The goal was also to encourage our students to walk around the house, searching for materials and inspiration. See below two pictures of our students holding their beautiful artworks.

At the same time, YMM’s team was working on developing a teaching platform to transition our classes to online teaching for our students to complete their Spring semester.

After many meetings, professional development, and online training, on April 8th, 2020, we launched our online art classes. We created private and secure Google classrooms for each course where the students can communicate directly with their teachers and classmates, share their artworks, and receive feedback from their teacher on their projects.

We are excited and thankful to be able to meet with our students to continue their art education. Our teachers are adapting the lesson plans according to the art supplies the students have available at home, so parents do not need to go out to buy supplies.

Due to the irregular situation, we understand if students need to step away from the screen, so teachers are recording their classes for students to have access to it at a later time if needed. At the beginning of the class, the teacher asks for verbal authorization to record the meeting, and at the end of the class, the teachers are posting the recording file in their classroom for students to have access to it.

Teachers have worked very hard to ensure all students feel welcomed and heard in their classes. Based on the feedback we have received, our students have received well our online classes.

The teachers have been working together with the students to ensure they meet the goals of the class.
